- 2 Lbs Fresh Green Beans, washed and trimmed
- 2 Ham Hocks (or 1 ham hock and 1 8oz ham steak- see notes above)
- 1 Medium Sweet Onion, diced
- 4 Garlic Cloves, minced
- 1 1/2 Cups Low-Sodium Chicken Broth
- Salt and Pepper
Place prepared green beans into the slow cooker. Nestle in the ham hocks. If using 1 ham hock and 1 ham steak, grill and then dice the ham steak before adding.
Add the diced onion, garlic, 1 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp black pepper. Roughly toss everything together. Pour the chicken broth over top.
Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on high for 3 hours or on low for 6 hours, stirring halfway through, if possible.
When the beans are cooked, but still crisp-tender, remove the ham hocks from the slow cooker. Shred any meat from the bone, placing the meat back into the slow cooker and discard the bone.
Taste for seasoning, adding more salt or pepper if needed. Place the slow cooker on the “warm” setting until the beans are ready to serve. Enjoy!!
