Ingredients

  • 1 Tsp Olive Oil
  • 1 Large Bell Pepper, diced
  • 1 Sweet Onion, diced
  • 1+ Jalapeños, seeded and diced For more spice, use 2-3 jalapeños
  • 4 Garlic Cloves, minced
  • 2 Lbs Lean Ground Beef
  • 15 Oz Canned Tomato Sauce
  • 2 Tbsp Tomato Paste
  • 1/2 Cup Water
  • 2 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 3 Tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Chili Powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
  • 1 Tsp Ground Mustard
  • Salt and Pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat the olive oil. Add the bell pepper, onion, and jalapeño and cook until slightly softened, about 2-3 minutes. Then add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  • Add the lean ground beef and break it up as it cooks. Once the ground beef is broken up and completely cooked, drain off the excess fat so that there is no more than 1 tbsp of fat in the skillet.
  • Now add the remaining ingredients. Add the tomato sauce, tomato paste, water, worchestershire sauce, brown sugar, and seasonings. Stir until everything is well combined.
  • Cook the meat and sauce at a gentle simmer for 10-20 minutes until the sauce has thickened slightly and reached your desired sauciness.
  • Serve the sloppy joe meat in a bun by itself or with desired toppings. Store leftovers in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Enjoy!
