With the price of everything increasing lately, my family has started to eat at home more than we ever have before. So that way, going out to dinner is truly a treat like it ought to be. But, I must say, it does get incredibly difficult to come up with dinner ideas that everyone can agree on. I don’t know about your house, but in mine, one food that everyone can agree on is pizza. I have a fantastic homemade pizza dough in my arsenal (it’s linked below if you’re interested), however, I wanted something faster. Something different. Aha! French bread pizzas! But, not any french bread pizzas. Supreme French Bread Pizzas.
These Supreme French Bread Pizzas are fantastic because they’re highly customizable. Use whatever meats, veggies you want. Mix them up from pizza to pizza- which is great if you have a picky eater in your house. Also, these pizzas are super quick to make, only about 30 minutes from start to finish. Have I mentioned how tasty they are yet?! Oh my gosh! They are so so good. Like so much better than frozen french bread pizzas.
And speaking of frozen french bread pizzas- have you ever made them before? Not only are they expensive for what you get (2 slices), but they also take about 25 minutes to cook. So, really, how can you not make french bread pizzas from home when they take about the same amount of time (but are made from scratch), are more economical, and waaaaaaay tastier. Seriously, you’ve got to try these Supreme French Bread Pizzas!
Ingredients Needed for the Supreme French Bread Pizzas
French Bread
Salted Butter
Seasonings: roasted garlic powder (can substitute regular garlic powder), pizza seasoning (optional), dried parsley
Pizza Sauce: store-bought or homemade
8 Oz Block Mozzarella Cheese: I always recommend shredding your own cheese, but you can substitute with a bag of pre-shredded mozzarella
1 Lb Italian Sausage: hot or sweet (whatever your preference)
2 Bell Peppers
Sweet Yellow Onion
Pepperoni
Let me show you how to make these Supreme French Bread Pizzas
Prepping Supreme French Bread Pizzas
Begin by preheating your oven to 400 degrees.
Melt 3 tbsp salted butter in the microwave in a small bowl. Add 1/2 tsp roasted garlic powder, 1/2 tsp pizza seasoning, 1/2 tsp dried parsley and stir.
Slice the french bread loaf down the middle lengthwise. If it is extra thick, you may want to consider cutting out a middle portion. See the picture below 👇🏻
Cut the bread into 6” sections. I was able to get 10 pieces out of one Sam’s Club-sized large French loaf.
Line a baking sheet with foil and lightly coat with nonstick cooking spray.
Place the french bread pizzas on the baking sheet and lightly brush each piece with the butter mixture.
Bake in the oven for 5-7 minutes until the bread is slightly golden and toasted. Set the bread aside while you prepare the rest of the ingredients.
In a large, nonstick skillet, cook the Italian sausage over high heat, breaking it up as it cooks. Cook until the sausage is no longer pink and is slightly crisp.
Using a slotted spoon, remove the sausage to a bowl. Add two small, diced bell peppers and 1 sliced sweet onion to the skillet (leaving the sausage grease in the pan).
Cook the peppers and onions for about 5 minutes until soft and slightly charred.
ASSEMBLING SUPREME FRENCH BREAD PIZZAS
Now onto assembly. Spread about 2 tbsp of pizza sauce onto each piece of french bread.
Then top the bread pieces with the onions, peppers, and sausage crumbles.
Next, top the pizzas with freshly shredded mozzarella cheese and a few slices of pepperoni.
Place the pizzas into the oven and bake for 10-15 minutes until the cheese is melted, the pepperoni is crisp, and the pizzas are toasty and golden.
Enjoy!!
