If you’ve been to a mall at any point in the last decade or so, you were bound to have come across an Auntie Anne’s Pretzel store. Or maybe more than one. Sometimes I have seen two different Pretzel shop locations in one mall! People love soft pretzels. Because they are freaking delicious. And they’re fun. Think about it- soft pretzels (and hot dogs, for that matter) are served at all kinds of fun places. Malls, amusement parks, zoos, sports events. I don’t think it’s a coincidence. Hot dogs and soft pretzels are the perfect marriage of two fun and delicious foods. Add some Everything But the Bagel Seasoning and prepare to blow everyone’s minds. Behold… Mini Everything Bagel Soft Pretzel Dogs.
I’ve been wrapping hot dogs in crescent rolls for probably 15 years. Yikes, that’s scary to say. Anywho… back before kids, I would make them as a quick, easy meal for Todd and I. I also used to consider that “big league” cooking back then. Haha! I’ve come a long way.
So we were having some friends over to watch football game. I knew that I had a bag of mini beef hot dogs and I thought “why not?” Like I said above, people love hot dogs AND soft pretzels. Plus I still had some Everything But the Bagel Seasoning so I knew that I could “class” them up a bit. Well, needless to say, but they were a huge hit! They’ve definitely become a family favorite of our’s as well!
Let me show you how I made these Mini Everything Bagel Soft Pretzel Dogs 👇🏻
Start by preheating your oven to 375 degrees and lining a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Unroll an 8 0z package of crescent rolls. Cut each of the 8 crescent rolls into thirds (lengthwise). Roll one mini beef hot dog up into a crescent roll strip, starting with the wide end and ending with the thin end. Press the end into the dough so that it won’t come loose. Repeat 23 more times, using all of the crescent roll dough.
In a small sauce pot, add 1/3 cup of baking soda. Fill the pot with 6 cups of water and whisk together. Then bring the water to a rapid boil for 2 minutes and then turn off the heat.
Using a slotted spoon, dunk 2-3 of the mini dogs at a time into the hot water for 15-20 seconds.
Remove the mini dogs from the water, gently shaking off any excess water, and place on the prepared baking sheet.
Once all of the mini dogs have been dunked into the hot baking soda water, whisk one large egg in a small bowl. Brush each of the mini dogs with the egg wash and sprinkle each other them with some of the Everything But the Bagel Seasoning.
**Note: I got my Everything But the Bagel Seasoning from Trader Joe’s, but it can literally be found almost anywhere these days. Just check the spice aisle at any grocery. I have even seen something similar at Sam’s Club**
Bake in the oven (on the oven rack that is second from the top) for 12-15 minutes until the mini pretzel dogs are deep golden brown. When fresh out of the oven, melt 1 tbsp of unsalted butter, and lightly brush the pretzel dogs with the butter.
Let the pretzel dogs sit on the hot baking sheet for a few minutes to cool before removing and eating. Best enjoyed warm.
I have served these as appetizers, snacks for the kids and I, or even lunch. They are so easy and so good!
Enjoy!!
