I’m baaaaaaack!
If you didn’t notice, I took a little time off from the blog for the last couple of weeks in December. The holidays were so chaotic for us and we are still trying to find some normalcy to head into the new year.
Can you believe that it is 2019?!? I don’t want to sound cliche, but really, where did 2018 go? We had a lot of big things happen in 2018. Todd’s mom was in an accident and I thank God that we still have her with us. My 17 year old Chihuahua, Jake, passed away. We brought a new life into our house- a rescue lab-mix puppy, named Benson. Ethan turned 10 years old. Todd got a major promotion at work. The kids started 3rd and 4th grade. And I started a blog! Those are just some of the highlights.
So how did I do with my goals in December? I’ll refresh your memory… the goals that I had set for myself were:
- Stay active & get your butt on the treadmill
- For goodness sakes- drink more water
- Just go to bed
- Be present
I’ll be honest, I didn’t do that well. December was kind of a train wreck for me. I over-committed, over-stressed and over-caffeinated myself. The one thing that I did do really well was to be present. Taking those last couple of weeks off in December was really fantastic. I love having my kiddos home from school and spending time with them. So, altogether, not great. But that’s why they’re goals- because these are the things that I need to work on.
So for 2019, I really have some big things in mind. Some big changes as well. Some things will be the same. I think that I could have “drink more water” as my goal every month and still not drink as much water as I should. Instead of setting a New Year’s resolution, I’m going to stick with these monthly goals. Overall, I feel like they are definitely things that I try to focus on and accomplish.
Here are the goals that I am setting for myself in January…
1. Let it go!
I feel like this is me holding onto things (that I shouldn’t be) in 2018 👇🏻
And this is going to be me, starting in January of 2019 👇🏻
I’m way too sensitive and I let things bother me that I know should not bother me. Unfortunately, you can’t purchase thicker skin so it’s a work in progress.
2. Start meal-prepping lunch and breakfast.
I’m not a person that is ever going to be successful at meal-prepping. Geez, do I wish that I was though. However, I do need to get better about making sure that I have something ready for myself for breakfast and lunch. A lot of mornings, I end up drinking coffee and just skipping breakfast and then by the time lunch rolls around, I’m starving and ready to eat anything in my path.
Most of the time, I’m home alone during the day. So by having something healthy available for me to eat for breakfast and lunch, I can avoid this 👆🏻I will be sharing some of these meal-prep recipes along the way as well.
3. 15,000 steps a day. Minimum.
For some, this may seem like a lot. For others, this really isn’t so bad. When I’m really working on my health (which I plan to be this year), I’m usually somewhere between 20,000-25,000 steps. So, for me, this is definitely an attainable goal. We just got a new treadmill, so I plan to start really putting in some work. I have a watch that is pretty accurate at tracking my steps and I need to start utilizing it.
4. Keep the promises I make. Including to myself.
I almost never break a promise to somebody else. But, I’m very quick to break the promises to myself. I need to make myself important enough to not want to break my own promises. If I say that I’m going to work on drinking more water, I’m going to work on drinking more water.
5. Be my own #1 cheerleader, not #1 critic
Are you hard on yourself as well? I am never my own cheerleader. I am awful at taking compliments. I need to work on not being so hard on myself and accept the fact that change is going to take some time. I think my sister picked up on the fact that in 2018, I had a hard time with this. For Christmas, she got me an amazing gift. It’s a daily calendar called “You Are a Badass: How to stop doubting your greatness and start living an awesome life.” It’s pictured 👇🏻Along with the first page, which I thought was fantastic. I have it on my nightstand and it will be the first thing that I read in the morning. It’s not too late to snag one for yourself. Daily affirmations never hurt… so, I’m super excited about this.
